Lafayette Parish School Board Special Meeting
February 21, 2006

Board Calls Special Meeting to Reconsider Approval of Salary Schedules
The Lafayette Parish School Board met in a Special Meeting to reconsider its approval of new non-teaching salary schedules. The Board approved the new pay scales at its regular meeting on February 15, 2006. After learning that some employees would be getting large salary adjustments, some board members wanted to reconsider their approval of the pay adjustments.
The new salary schedules are step-based similar to the teachers' salary schedule. The projected budget impact is $2,700,000. The new schedules impact the following groups of employees: Administrative/Professional, Support, Technical, and Crafts & Trades. Motion (Sam, Hefner) that the Board delay implementation of the four schedules (Administrative/Professional, Technical, Support, and Craft and Trades), and allow staff to rework the schedules and come back to the Board within 30 days with another recommendation. Vote was 7-1 in favor of delaying implementation of the salary schedules and pay adjustments.

Your Board Members are:

Kay Gibson, Dist. 9, President; Judy Cox, Dist. 8, Vice President; John Earl Guidry, Dist. 1; Carl LaCombe, Dist. 2; Rickey Hardy, Dist. 3; Edward Sam, Dist. 4; Michael Hefner, Dist. 5; Beverly Wilson, Dist. 6; David Thibodaux, Dist. 7. Your superintendent is James H. Easton, Ed.D.
