What is a Smaller Learning Community?

An individualized learning unit within a larger school setting.

Student schedules that keep students and teachers together.

There is no one model for a SLC.
   - Career academy
   - Ninth Grade/Freshman/Success Academy

Part of a federally funded grant entitled

      Students, Parents, Administrators, Community, and Educators for Success

Freshman Academy

Four components critical to success:

   - Transition Support
      ● Activities to enhance the difficult transition from middle school to high school
         - Family Fun Day
         - Freshman orientation/camp

   - Teacher Advisor Groups
      ● Five key components
         - Freshman Focus
         - Personalized Education Plan
         - Job Shadowing
         - Community Service Project
         - Safe and Drug Free After School Activities

   - Academic Enhancements
      ● Comprised of:
         - Alignment with State Academic Standards (GLE)
         - Personal Academic Oversight

         - After-School Programs

   - Physical and Logical Accommodations
