Board Learns About Upcoming Book Bug Drive The Board received information from the Lafayette Education Foundation, which is kicking off its exciting program to benefit Lafayette Parish schools for the third year. On March 31 to April 15, LEF will conduct its Book Bug Drive, in conjunction with Kiwanis of Acadiana. The Book Bug Drive is a community book drive to collect gently-used children’s (grades K-5) books to be distributed to public elementary schools for use in classroom libraries and to be donated to children who might not have books at home. Book collection bins will be located at all public elementary schools and locations throughout the parish. Books will be collected in the public schools April 3-13. Again this year, Barnes and Noble bookstore is supporting the Book Bug Drive by holding sale days. The sale days at Barnes and Noble are scheduled on Saturday April 8 and April 15. The public is invited to join in this exciting partnership to support our schools’ mission of teaching every child to read. Board Approves Proclamation for Library Week The Board approved a resolution proclaiming the week of April 2-8 as National Library Week. The proclamation urges all residents to take advantage of all their library has to offer and discover all the ways "you can change your world @ your library." Board Votes to Hire Consultant for Pay Schedules The Board voted to add the status report on the Non-Teacher Salary Schedule Redesign to the action agenda. After much discussion, the Board requested that staff hire a consultant to review the salary step schedules as proposed to the Board in February.
