Registration Information LPSS Registration Scheduled for March 19 Registration for kindergarten, first-time public school students (excludes first-time high school students), and preschool programs will be held Wednesday, March 19, in Lafayette Parish. Registration will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at all schools. Please note that first-time high school students will have the opportunity to register this summer. If parents are uncertain of which school their child will be attending, they may contact the Child Welfare and Attendance office at 521-7089 for information on their home zone school. The kindergarten entrance age is five years old by September 30, 2008. At kindergarten registration, parents must provide the child's birth certificate, immunization record, and proof of residency. A social security card also is recommended. Applications to obtain a birth certificate will be available at registration sites. The local Social Security office should be contacted for a social security card. Copies of immunizations should be available where the shots were given. Proof of residency includes utility bills (electric or gas) with name and physical home address. For parents needing time to gather the documents required, another registration will scheduled in August, 2008. Registration for all pre-school programs also is Wednesday, March 19. These programs include LA4, Starting Points, Even Start, HIPPY, and Head Start. To register for LA4 and Starting Points, a child must be four years old by September 30, 2008. In addition to a birth certificate, immunization record, and the recommended social security card, parents must provide proof of income. For information about: Even Start and HIPPY, call Patsy Morgan at 267-3416; LA4 Program, Starting Points, and Head Start, call 521-7162; and kindergarten, call the school principal. Welcome to LPSS We welcome you and your child to the Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS). If you have any questions about enrolling, please don't be concerned - you will find the answers to the most commonly asked questions listed below: What sort of paperwork will I need to enroll my child? You should bring the following items to the school: Proof of name and age: A certified copy of a birth certificate is acceptable. Health records: LPSS requires that students adhere to Louisiana's recommended immunization schedule. See Health/Immunization for more information. Proof of residence: This should be a current utility bill (electric or gas bill) that shows the resident's name and physical address. Social Security Card: We recommend, but do not require, that you bring your child's social security card. If you prefer not to submit the social security card, an ID number will be assigned to your child. LPSS is currently working toward eliminating the use of social security cards and relying solely on a unique ID number for each child.
