WELCOME TO THE INSURANCE DEPARTMENT

The Lafayette Parish School System offers a variety of different insurance coverages. The School System's health plan is self-insured with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana acting as our third party administrator. Prescription drug coverage for employees on the PPO plans is administered through CVS Caremark, a pharmacy benefit management company.

Employees of the school system receive a term life insurance policy with Hartford Life in the amount of $10,000 for FREE. They may purchase additional coverage up to a maximum of $50,000 in addition to the basic amount.

Dental insurance is offered on a voluntary basis through DINA Dental. There are two different plans to fit your needs: a Prepaid plan (dental HMO) and an indemnity plan.

Employees may enroll in benefits under the cafeteria plan, Section 128 of the IRS Tax Code, allows for the deduction of insurance premiums from the paycheck before taxes are calculated, thus lowering employees' tax liability.

Employees who enroll in the district's High Deductible Health Plan may also enroll in a Health Savings Account through payroll deduction. We also offer a flexible spending plan for out-of-pocket health care expenses and dependent child care expenses, a benefit administered by TASC.  Click here for a list of expenses which are eligible for reimbursement under the flexible spending plan.

We offer voluntary disability insurance is offered through Standard Insurance. This insurance protects an employees' wages in the event of a disability not covered under workers' compensation. View the rate chart here.

Long term care insurance is also available through both Unum Provident and Northwestern Mutual. For information regarding the Northwestern Mutual policy, employees must call Bill Bowers or Vernon Ventress at 337-769-1891.

Cancer, heart, stroke, intensive care, as well as additional life and disability insurance is available through Allstate Insurance.

Vision coverage is available with AlwaysCare.

Legal protection and Identity Theft Protection are available through Pre-Paid Legal Services.

403(b)plans which are individualized retirement plans in addition to Teachers Retirement are offered through various vendors.

The employee's share of the cost for all of the benefits mentioned above are deducted monthly from the employee's paycheck.
