Board Notes Lafayette Parish School Board Regular Board Meeting August 16, 2006 Board Recognizes A+PEL Volunteer The Lafayette Parish School Board recognized Mary Keller as the A+PEL Volunteer of the Year. Keller was chosen from those submitted from the public schools of Lafayette Parish. Prairie Elementary submitted Keller's nomination as Volunteer of the Year. The award was established to thank volunteers who make up an important part of what makes schools successful. She not only volunteers to help in her grandchild's classroom, but has helped in the in-service of teachers as she works as a math educator for teachers at UL-Lafayette. Board Reviews Pupil-Teacher Ratio The Board reviewed information on the Pupil-Teacher Ratio since 2001, at the request of Dr. David Thibodaux. Minutes from the Regular Board Meeting of April 5, 2000 show that the Board approved the following class sizes: K-4 at 21-1, grades 5 and 8 at 25-1, grades 6, 7 and 9-12 at 28-1. Minutes from the Special Board Meeting of May 2, 2001 show that the Board approved staffing with the following class sizes: K-4 at 22-1, grades 5 and 8 at 26-1, grades 6, 7, and 9-12 at 29-1. Minutes also reflect that four schools, S.J. Montgomery, Woodvale, Prairie, and Plantation, with displaced students from J.W. James Elementary and St. Antoine Elementary receive additional funds from the class size reduction grant to lower class sizes in first grade to a maximum of 18-1. In other action, the Board: - approved corrections on the minutes of the Regular Board Meeting of 8-2-06;
- approved the minutes of the Special Board Meeting of 8-9-06;
- approved the minutes of the Special Board Meeting of 8-16-06;
- ratified bills for June, 2006;
- received a curriculum update on
- received information on the eligibility of students to participate in extra-curricular activities;
- received information on the following items, with action to be taken at a subsequent meeting:
- Pupil Progression Plan for the 2006-2007 School Year;
- Policy File: GAIC - Distribution of Personnel and Student Data;
- Construction Funds Budget Revision #2 - Final for Fiscal Year 2005-2006;
- Capital Improvement Fund Budget Revision #3 - Final for Fiscal Year 2005-2006;
- Sales Tax Fund Budget Revision #2 - Final for Fiscal Year 2005-2006;
- 2002 Half-Cent Sales Tax Fund Budget Revision #3 - Final for Fiscal Year 2005-2006;
- approved personnel changes;
- approved awarding the Paperback Books bid to And Books II.
