Early Childhood Health Services

  • Nurses work with first-time teen mothers and/or expectant mothers in the schools and provide referrals to the Nurse Family Partnership with the Family Tree.
  • Students are seen by school nurses weekly for services which include monitoring of blood pressure, prenatal medical care, counseling, referrals to community resources, planning for postnatal care and child care services.
  • Parents are offered information on enrollment and assistance in enrolling in the Louisiana Children's Health Insurance Program (LaChip).
  • Professional Development is scheduled to train 35% of staff yearly in identifying risk factors for ages 4 and under.
  • Transportation and Child Care assistance are also components of this project.
