Child Welfare & Attendance

The Lafayette Parish School System's Child Welfare and Attendance Office provides a variety of services to students and their families. The primary goal of the department is to design effective interventions in the areas of attendance, discipline, and dropout prevention.  We also provide assistance with the following services:

  • Requirements for Student Registration
  • School boundaries and Zoning (Street Directory/Zone Info Link )
  • Student Educational Advantage Transfers (SEAT)
  • Employee's Student Transfer Option
  • Requests for Out of Zone Exception
  • Employment of Minors and Work Permits
  • School-Wide Positive Behavior Support
  • Before or After School Detention
  • In School Suspension
  • Attendance Hearings
  • Suspension Appeal Hearings
  • Expulsion Hearings
  • Placement at the Continuing Academic Program for Students (C.A.P.S.)
  • Placement at the Lafayette Parish Alternative Program (L.A.P.S.)
  • Transfers to Adult Education and Completion of Act 59 (16 year olds)

It is our desire that the multitude of services coordinated by this office are efficient and professional and assist students to complete their education successfully.  We are located at the Lafayette Parish School Board Office and are open from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.  Please call (337) 521-7089 for additional assistance.

Child Welfare & Attendance

The Lafayette Parish School System's Child Welfare and Attendance Office provides a variety of services to students and their families. The primary goal of the department is to monitor attendance and discipline data and provide support services to those individuals with excessive absences or extreme disciplinary concerns. We also provide assistance with the following services:

  • School Requirements for Student Registration
  • Request for Out of Zone Exception (Street Directory/Zone Info Link)
  • Student Educational Advantage Transfers
  • Employee's Student Transfer Option
  • Employment of Minors and Work Permits
  • Compulsory School Attendance and Truancy
  • School-Wide Positive Behavior Support
  • Behavior Clinic
  • Discipline Center
  • Suspension Appeal Hearings
  • Expulsion Hearings
  • Placement at the Continuing Academic Program for Students (C.A.P.S.)
  • Placement at the Lafayette Parish Alternative Program (L.A.P.S.)
