PARENT CHILD CENTER Welcome to the Parent Child Center where we offer educational evaluation services for children ages three through five years who may have special needs.
Our goal is to provide information to parents and educators which will assist in future educational programming. The following information is a brief explanation of the evaluation process. Upon receipt of a Child-Search form, you will be scheduled for an interview with a social worker. The referral process is completed at the interview when you give written permission for the evaluation to begin. Parental Interview During the interview with the social worker, you will be encouraged to share your concerns. You will also be asked questions about your child’s medical and developmental history and how your child functions in different settings. Your child will then be scheduled to be seen on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the following week. It is important that we see your child over several sessions in order to obtain a complete picture of what he or she is able to do. Evaluation Your child will be observed and tested in a play setting by our certified professional staff including specialists in social work, educational diagnostics, school psychology and speech, hearing and language disorders. The multidisciplinary team is supported by a teaching assistant. Services of audiologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school nurses and other disciplines are utilized according to your child’s individual needs. The staff may determine that your child would benefit from additional evaluation days and these will be scheduled for a later date. While your child is being assessed, you will have an opportunity to ask questions and observe parts of the evaluation of your child. Due to space limitations, persons other than parents will be asked to remain in the waiting room during the evaluation process. Your child’s evaluation coordinator (a member of the evaluation team) will be introduced to you on your Wednesday visit. Please feel free to contact the coordinator if you have any questions, concerns or additional information about your child that you would like to share. When the written report is completed, you will be asked to return to the center where the coordinator will go over the report with you and address any of your questions and concerns.
