INDUSTRIAL ARTS Teacher: John Broussard Mr. John Broussard teaches the Industrial Arts classes. In all of his classes he not only teaches the required material but also teaches students about life and how they should act, which makes the class more imporant. He teaches Basic Wood, General Technology, and Materials and Processes. In these classes students learn safety in the shop. They also learn about different types of tools and also the proper way of using the tools.
Basic Wood: In Basic Wood students learn how to build a spoon rack, birdhouses, and squirrel feeders. They also have the opportunity to help build an arbor. Students can also show their skills and creativity by building their own project. Students build projects like desks, trophy cases, and book cases. General Tech: In this class students learn what technology is and how it is used everyday. They also learn about telecommunication. Students build a satellite that they must be able to communicate with while in flight. Some of the other projects are the robot, the house, and a bridge. Students are asked to build a bridge out of Popsicle sticks. If designing the bridge is not hard enough, the bridge must be able to hold a certain amount of weight. Materials & Processes: In Materials and Processes students learn about drafting. Students are taught the proper way to draw house plans and how to use scaling rulers and other tools used in drafting. Students bring in their own house plans to see if they can redraw them to scale. Some of the other activities that students participate in is small engines. Students learn the basics of small engines and how they work. Students who are not afraid to get dirty, break open the engines to get hands on experience.
