The newly designed discipline policy, known as the Matrix, establishes a structured guideline for administrators to assign disciplinary consequences for universally defined behavior infractions. The plan provides for consistency in application of consequences across the district as well as assignment of strategic behavior interventions aimed at changing student behavior. New interventions such as Saturday Intervention and Alternative to Suspension are included. Additionally, parental involvement and responsibility in the discipline process has been strengthened. The home–school partnership should encourage parents to actively participate in their children’s education as well as involve parents in a shared decision making process. We believe this combined effort of home and school will assist students in extending learning beyond the classroom and in maximizing classroom achievement.
