Lafayette Middle School 
Lafayette Middle School was constructed in 1926 and has been registered as a historical landmark. The beautiful building and its grounds occupy an entire city block at the intersection of University and Congress in downtown Lafayette. The huge live oaks and massive pine trees that shade the grounds create a warm and welcoming environment to all visitors and to the staff, students and parents that call Lafayette Middle “their school.” LMS is the School of Choice for Environmental Sciences and has a wide variety of programs in its curriculum including Band, Computer Technology and Environmental Sciences. Other academic programs that are in active use at the school are: Accelerated Reader, Connected Math, Alabama Integrated Science, and after-school tutoring. Lafayette Middle also offers a variety of clubs to students: 4-H, Beta, PRIDE, Student Council, E-watchers, and the 5 time Martin Luther King Quiz Bowl Parish-wide championship team. A variety of sports are offered to 7th and 8th grade students: Young men have a choice of football, basketball, track and field, and soccer. Young ladies have a choice of volleyball, track and field, soccer and basketball.
