FILE: AB SCHOOL BOARD LEGAL STATUS As required by the Constitution of the State of Louisiana, the Legislature creates parish school boards and provides for the election of their members (VIII:9:A). The Legislature has decreed that there shall be a parish school board for each parish which shall constitute a body corporate with power to sue and, under certain conditions, to be sued without further legislative authority (LSA-R.S. 17:51). A parish school board is an agency of the State, subject to state laws in the operation of the public schools of the parish, and responsible for their implementation to the State Board of Education Statutory LEGAL REFS.: cited above Printer Friendly Version
