SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT LEGAL STATUS

The Constitution of the State of Louisiana requires each parish school board to elect a superintendent of parish schools and specifies that the State Board of Education shall fix the qualifications and duties of parish superintendents. The Constitution also establishes that the superintendent need not be a resident of the parish in which he serves.

Among the duties assigned to the parish superintendent by the legislature is to act as secretary and treasurer to the parish school board.
