File: ADB MASTER PLAN PRINCIPLES (MAXIMUM SCHOOL ENROLLMENTS) The Board shall establish the preferred upper limits of student enrollments in its schools as follows:
To embrace the neighborhood school concept for all elementary students who reside in Lafayette Parish. To house grades K-5 in all elementary schools to insure parents and students that they can enjoy six (6) years of attending school on the same campus.
To maximize enrollment at all campuses
Elementary Schools < 750 students Middle Schools < 1,400 students High Schools < 2,000 students As a school approaches or surpasses these upper limits of enrollment, it shall be the responsibility of the Superintendent to make recommendations to the Board to either restructure the school's attendance zone or to recommend construction of a new facility on another site or to take other appropriate action when funds become available which will reduce the school's enrollment to the preferred upper limits of student population.
To minimize alteration of high school zones.
To provide adequate space for school/community-based education programs (i.e. Adult Education, P.M. Program, C.A.P.S., Boot Camp, etc.)
To establish magnet schools to enhance student learning opportunities. To identify and secure land prior to building of new schools. Adopted: 11/7/90 Revised: 9/17/97 Printer Friendly Version
