File: DP-R DISPOSITION OF SURPLUS PERSONAL PROPERTY REGULATIONS When a school or department of the Lafayette Parish School Board (LPSB) determines that any personal (movable) property is surplus to their needs, that school or department is to notify the Superintendent or his designee. The Superintendent or designee will circulate to all schools and departments a notice that the property is available. The notice will be accompanied by a directive instructing any organization desiring the property to respond by memorandum to the Superintendent within thirty days. The memorandum is to outline the specific use to which the requestor intends to place the property. The Superintendent or designee will evaluate the requests and assign the property to that unit indicating the best intended use for the property - best use defined first as greatest positive impact on student learning and second as best economic alternative. If two or more requesting units represent equal best use then the assignment will be by lot. If no school or department indicates an interest in the property, it will be included with other items to be disposed of to the highest bidder at public auction, such auction to be held at a time and place as stated in public advertisement in the official journal of the LPSB.
