This is a required course for graduation.  The course is designed to expose every student to activities useful as lifetime recreational pursuits.  The course also introduces physical fitness as part of the curriculum.  Required units in Physical Education I are as follows: basketball, bowling, flag football, physical fitness, softball, and track and field.  This course must be paired with Health Education.

This is a course required for graduation.  Health Education is a semester course which contains instruction in CPR, nutrition, personal health, safety and first aid, substance use and abuse, family living, mental and emotional heath, environmental and community health, and communicable and noncommunicable diseases.  In addition, there will be 16 hours of state-mandated substance abuse prevention training.  The health curriculum will also address self-breast exam for females and the testicular exam for males.  This course must be paired with Physical Education I.

This course is required for graduation.  Physical Education II will focus on presenting students with a wide variety of sports and leisure activities, which will enable them to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. This course focuses on fostering an awareness of the fitness lifestyle.  Skills and techniques will be taught in a wide variety of weight training exercises.  Proper stretching techniques, the energy cycle and its functions, aerobic exercises and proper nutritional habits will also be addressed.

The purpose of Junior ROTC I is to introduce students to the meaning of citizenship, the elements of leadership, and the value of scholarship in attaining life goals; engender a sound appreciation for the heritage and traditions of America, with recognition that the historically significant role of sea power will be important in America’s future; develop in each cadet a growing sense of pride in his/her organization, associates, and self.  Prerequisites:  A student must be a United States citizen; be physically able to participate fully in PE; project a presentable appearance; be making satisfactory academic progress toward graduation; and obtain the recommendation of the Naval Science instructor in order to enroll in Junior ROTC I.

The purpose of Junior ROTC II is to build on the general introduction provided in NJROTC I, to further develop the traits of citizenship and leadership in cadets, introduce cadets to technical areas of Naval Science, and engender a deeper awareness of the vital importance of the world oceans to the continued well-being of the United States.  Prerequisite:  Junior ROTC I and approval of the Naval Science instructor.

The purpose of Navy Junior ROTC III is to broaden the understanding of students in the operative principles of military leadership, the concept and significance of teamwork, the intrinsic value of good order and discipline in the accomplishment of objectives, the fundamentals of American democracy, and to expand their understanding of naval academic subjects.  Prerequisite:  Junior ROTC II and approval of the Naval Science Instructor.

The purpose of Navy Junior ROTC IV is to focus solely on practical leadership.  The intent is to assist the senior in understanding leadership and improving their leadership skills by putting them in position of leadership, under supervision, then helping them analyze the reasons for their varying degrees of success through the year.  Classroom activities include seminars, reading assignments, classroom presentations, and practical work with younger cadets.  Prerequisite:  Junior ROTC III and approval of the Naval Science Instructor.  May be taken at the same time as Junior ROTC III with approval.

This course consists of Leadership Education and Aerospace Science. Leadership Education introducs students to the meaning of citizenship, elements of leadership, and the importance of scholarship in attaining goals.  It exposes students to the heritage and traditions of the United States Air Force.  During the Aerospace Science portion of the course, students will be exposed to either A Journey into Aviation History, Global and Cultural Studies, or The Science of Flight, depending on the year they enter the program (these courses rotate year to year for students in their first three years of AFJROTC).  Through the course, the instructors strive to develop in each cadet a growing sense of pride in the team, as well as in themselves. This course is offered every year. Prerequisites:  Students must be a United States citizen; able to participate in PE; project a good appearance; make satisfactory academic progress toward graduation; and obtain the recommendation of the Aerospace Science Instructor.

This course consists of Leadership Education and Aerospace Science.  Leadership Education continues to build on the lessons of citizenship while providing cadets information that is important to them when considering either a vocation or college.  It acquaints cadets with the process of applying for college, properly applying for a job, responding well during interviews, and seeking career opportunities.  After AFJROTC I, students will take either this course, AFJROTC II or AFJROTC IV, depending on when they enter the program.  During the Aerospace Science portion of the course, students will be exposed to either A Journey into Aviation History, Global and Cultural Studies, or The Science of Flight, depending on the year they enter the program (these courses rotate year to year for students in their first three years of AFJROTC).  Through the course, the instructors will continue to develop in each cadet a sense of pride in themselves, as well as other members of the team.  Prerequisites:  Completion of AFJROTC I and the prerequisites described for AFJROTC I.

This course consists of Leadership Education and Aerospace Science.  Leadership Education serves to broaden the cadets’ understanding of themselves and others with a focus on management skills important to success. It provides students an understanding of the evolution, principles, and functions of management, as well as the processes involved in making sound decisions. Instructors will continue to develop in each cadet a strong sense of pride as well as pride in the entire team.  After  AFJROTC I, students will take either this course, AFJROTC II, or AFJROTC III, depending on when they enter the program.  During the Aerospace Science portion of the course, students will also learn the importance of negotiation, managing resources, and the operative, practical experience associated with leading other cadets through Management of the Cadet Corps.  Through this course, the instructors will continue to develop in each cadet a sense of pride in themselves as well as other members of the team. Prerequisites: Completion of AFJROTC I and the prerequisites described for AFJROTC I.

* While rare, two sequential courses may be taken consecutively with the permission of the appropriate grade-level counselor and the Aerospace Science instructor.
** The Honors Ground School, which can lead to Ground School certification (prelude to earning a private pilot’s license), is available for selected students meeting Air Force prerequisites, including completion of The Science of Flight, and who are in their fourth year of AFJROTC.  This course is taught as an Acadiana High Honor’s course during the evening at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL).

Peer Support I    Grades:  11-12

This is a full-credit elective course offered to juniors and seniors.  Students will attend the Adapted Physical Education class and will serve as "peer supports" within the class.  The peer supports will participate with exceptional students in recreational activities to include, but not limited to, table tennis, bowling, shuffleboard, croquet, physical fitness, line dancing, and board games.  The peer support will gain knowledge and understanding of differences in people.  Peer support will also be provided the opportunity to develop and enhance friendships with classmates who have different abilities and interests.  The peer support will also be exposed to numerous disciplines, which may create interest in careers such as general education, special education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation, nursing, and social services.  Interested students must fill out an application and be interviewed by an Adapted Physical Education teacher.

Peer Support II    Grade:  12

This is a full-credit elective course offered to senior students.  Peer supports will be paired up with exceptional students who attend inclusion classes.  Inclusion classes may include: art, civics, or any course a student is included in.  The peer support will work one-on-one or in small group settings with exceptional students on subject matter within the inclusion class.  Through Peer Support II, the peer supports will be put in the important role of assisting exceptional students to be successful in some aspect of their social life.  Peer supports will also learn to advocate for others who need support.  Prerequisite:  Peer Tutor Program I.
