INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY

Materials and Processes    Grades:  9-12

Materials and Processes introduces students to several areas of industry.  Students are introduced to drafting, small gas engines, wood working, and electricity.  Each short course begins with a short history of the technology, and moves through the processes, materials and products.  Students are given theory and hands-on assignments and may introduce problems for the class if they wish.  Materials and Processes also teaches the love of work and that every student can and should work for his/her livelihood.

General Technology Education    Grades:  9-12

General Technology Education is a hands-on approach to various innovative forms of modern technology and is designed for both males and females of all high-school classifications.  The first two six-week periods involve classroom study of the major areas of technology.  The remainder of the year is spent in a modular computer lab where the student will receive introductory training in areas such as robotics, desktop publishing, electronics, computer numeric control, computer animation, architectural design, CAD, flight simulation, writing and design, meteorology, and computer-assisted health care.  The course is designed for students who wish to enhance their knowledge of modern technology.  No prior computer experience is necessary.

Basic Wood Technology    Grades:  10-12

This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of woodworking, beginning with hand tool experiences and progressing into the study and use of modern power hand tools and machines.  Safety issues are actively incorporated into all aspects of instruction.  Safety exams will be given to the students and then kept on file for student review or proof that each student is knowledgeable of safety rules and procedures.  These tests include questions on all specific safety rules.  The student will not be allowed use of tools or machines until he/she scores a passing grade on the exam.  Students will need to have written permission from parents or guardians before using tools and machines. Students will be allowed to display their projects and then take them home.

Power Mechanics    Grades:  10-12

This course provides students with an understanding of the field of power mechanics.  Students will study and develop basic competencies in working with mechanical systems, fluid power systems, electrical systems, and internal and external combustion systems.  This course will include hand-on application in safety, tool usage, automobile basics, and small engine basics.

Basic Technical Drafting    Grades:  10-12

Basic Technical Drafting is a comprehensive approach to drafting as an occupation.  Students work their way through manual drafting exercises including measurement, 3-view drawings, floor plans, and site plans.  This course is beneficial to any student in the Industrial Arts/Technology field.

Architectural Drafting    Grades:  11-12

This course provides the student with an overview of the basic concepts that are common in the area of residential planning and design.  The steps in planning will enable students to design a residence to meet given specifications.  Emphasis is placed on the completion of a set of working drawings for home construction.  Work-based learning strategies appropriate for this course include field trips, job shadowing, and internships.  This course and Technology Student Association technical and leadership activities enhance skills essential for students interested in technical and engineering career fields.  Prerequisite: Basic Technical Drafting.
