BAND All band classes require rehearsals and performances beyond the regular school day. A lab fee may be required for band classes. State Music Supervisor, Martin Sotile confirmed the fact that students may receive credit for two advanced band classes during the same year. (January 8, 1999). Applied Music Grades: 9-12 972604 Credit: 1 (or repeated for multiple credit) In this course, students will develop dance and color guard drill skills. The course is designed for students who are interested in being members of a band auxiliary group and who have satisfied the audition and camp requirements. A background in dance or gymnastics is helpful but not required. Band auxiliary groups perform with the marching band and participate in several competitions. Beginning Band Grades: 9-12 972104 Credit: 1 This course is designed for, but not limited to, freshmen who have had one or more years of band instruction at the middle school level. In this course students will continue to develop the fundamentals of musicianship. An audition may be required. Intermediate Band Grades: 9-12 972154 Credit: 1 This is an intermediate level course. Advanced Band (PR) (Percussion) Grades: 9-12 972274 Credit: 1 (or repeated for multiple credit) This course is designed for students who have had one or more years of percussion instruction at the middle school level. All aspects of percussion are covered including both marching and concert instruments. Students in this class perform in the marching band in the fall and in the concert or symphonic band in the spring. An audition may be required. Advanced Band (WW I) (Woodwind I) Grades: 9-12 972204 Credit: 1 This is an entry-level course designed primarily for, but not limited to students who have had one or more years of instruction in playing a woodwind instrument. Students in this class perform with the marching band in the fall and with the concert or symphonic band in the spring. An audition may be required. Advanced Band (BR I) (Brass) Grade: 9 972254 Credit: 1 (or repeated for multiple credit) This course is an entry-level course for students who have had one or more years of instruction in playing a brass instrument at the middle school level. Students in this class perform with the marching band in the fall and with the concert or symphonic band in the spring. Advanced Band (WW II) (Woodwind II) Grades: 9-12 972504 Credit: 1 (or repeated for multiple credit) This course is an intermediate-level course for woodwind players. Members of this class perform with the marching band during the fall semester and with the concert or symphonic band in the spring. An audition is required. Advanced Band BR II (Brass II) Grades: 9-12 972654 Credit: 1 (or repeated for multiple credit) This course is an intermediate-level course for brass instrument players. Members perform with the marching band during the fall semester and with the concert or symphonic band in the spring. Wind Ensemble Grades: 9-12 972354 Credit: 1 (or repeated for multiple credit) This course is an advanced-level course for wind players. Students in this class perform in the marching band in the fall and are scheduled with wind ensemble in the spring. An audition is required. Jazz Ensemble I Grades: 9-12 972304 Credit: 1 (or repeated for multiple credit) This course is designed for band members who possess a moderate degree of proficiency in playing a stage band instrument and are interested in jazz and popular music. The ensemble performs music of the jazz idiom at various school and community functions. This class may be scheduled to meet daily before the regular school day. An audition is required for admission. Jazz Ensemble II Grades: 9-12 972704 Credit: 1 (or repeated for multiple credit) This advanced-level course is designed for band members who possess a high level of proficiency in playing a stage band instrument and are interested in jazz and popular music. The ensemble performs music of the jazz idiom at various school and community functions. This class may be scheduled to meet daily before the regular school day. An audition is required for admission. Beginning Orchestra Grades: 9-12 972404 Credit: 1 This course is designed for students who possess a moderate degree of proficiency in playing a stringed orchestral instrument: violin, viola, cello or string bass. Students in this class perform at school and community functions. Admission is by audition. Advanced Orchestra Grades: 9-12 972454 Credit: 1 (or repeated for multiple credit) This course is designed for students who possess a high degree of proficiency in playing a stringed orchestral instrument: violin, viola, cello and string bass. Students in this class perform at various school and community functions. Admission is by audition. Advanced Band (SYM) (Symphony) Grades: 9-12 972374 Credit: 1 (or repeated for multiple credit) This is the most advanced instrument course offered. It is designed for students who possess a high degree of proficiency in playing a band instrument. Students in this class perform in the marching band in the fall and with another band during the spring concert season. This course may be repeated for credit. Admission is by audition.
