Academy of Design Comeaux High School Bench Jewelry 950554 Level 1, 1 hr. Credit: 1 Grades: 9-12 950564 Level 2, 1 hr. Credit: 1 Grades: 10-12 950574 Level 3, 1 hr. Credit: 1 Grades: 11-12 950584 Level 4, 1 hr. Credit: 1 Grades: 12 only The purpose of the bench jewelry academy is to train students for entry-level positions or post-secondary training in jewelry making and repair. Students will learn the basic skills such as sawing, filing, polishing, soldering, and sizing, which are involved in the bench jewelry process. Advanced level classes will provide training in jewelry design utilizing industry-based computer software. Applicants to the bench jewelry academy must go through an enrollment process which includes an interview session. There is no prerequisite for Bench Jewelry Level 1. Bench Jewelry Level 1 is a prerequisite for Bench Jewelry Level 2. Bench Jewelry Level 2 is a prerequisite for Bench Jewelry Level 3. Bench Jewelry Level 3 is a prerequisite for Bench Jewelry Level 4. Art I – Design Grade 9-12 950104 Credit: 1 This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of art. Students will study the elements and principles of design, drawing styles and techniques, value study, mask making, perspective, color theory, painting and 3-dimensional sculpture. Moreover, the study of art history and art criticism will help students analyze the aesthetic qualities of master artists’ works. A lab fee and additional supplies are required. Drafting for Designers Grade 9-12 950154 Credit: 1 Basic Technical Drafting is a comprehensive approach to drafting as an occupation. Students work their way through manual drafting exercises including measurement, 3-view drawings, floor plans, and site plans. This course is beneficial to any student in the Industrial Arts/Technology field. Design and the Computer Grade 10-12 950204 Credit: 1 In this course, students will explore computer applications used by the graphic designer in the context of solving visual communications problems. Skills acquired in this class will be useful for all design applications with a special focus on advertising design, graphic design, illustration, and animation. Students will become familiar with Adobe Creative Suite Plus Software in the new industry – standard Macintosh Computer Lab. This course is open to 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. Art I for Designers will be a prerequisite starting in the 2007-08 school year. Introduction to Fashion/Costume Design Grade 10-12 950254 Credit: 1 Students will be exposed to the work of great designers, Haute Couture, industrial terms, standard construction techniques, Art theory and basic design. Sketching, pattern making, cutting, fitting, budgeting, and custom design will be explored with an emphasis on creating original products. Students will become familiar with the History of Fashion and Costume Design as it relates to major historical movements, told through Art History. This course is open to 9th and 10th grade students.
