Board Notes Lafayette Parish School Board Regular Meeting January 9, 2008 Board Elects New Officers for 2008 The Lafayette Parish School Board elected its new officers to preside over meetings in 2008. Carl LaCombe, District 2, was re-elected president, and Greg Awbrey, District 6, was named vice-president. Board Recognizes Acadiana High Football Team The Board recognized the Acadiana High School Wrecking Rams Football Team for finishing as state runners-up at the LHSAA Superdome Classic Class 5A Finals in New Orleans on December 8, 2007. The Rams' head coach is Ted Davidson. Board Approves Resolution for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day The Board approved a resolution recognizing January 21, 2008 as a holiday commemorating the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Board Selects Candidate to Temporarily Replace Rickey Hardy The Board heard from three candidates who expressed interest in temporarily filling the vacancy of School Board District 3 Board Member. Rickey Hardy was elected state representative for the Louisiana Legislature and officially left his school board position December 31, 2007. The Board selected Lionel Lewis, Jr. as Board Member for District 3. In other action, the Board: - approved corrections of the minutes of the Regular Board Meeting of 12/5/07;
- approved corrections of the minutes of the Special Board Meeting of 12/20/07;
- ratified bills for October, 2007;
- received the Sales Tax Collection Report for November, 2007;
- ratified purchases for November, 2007;
- received a summary of grant funding and activity;
- received the Budget-o-Actual Status Report;
- received a Curriculum Update on the Principal-Centered Leadership Institute for aspiring administrators;
- received an update on the Magnet Schools A+ Access Grant, a 9.23 million dollar magnet school grant to expand the Schools of Choice program;
- received an update on the status of N.P. Moss Middle School;
- received information on the following items, with action to be taken at a subsequent meeting:
- 403B Program Administration;
- approved personnel changes;
- granted permission to advertise and fill the position of Principal I at Plantation Elementary School;
- approved the warehouse bid;
- approved the audio-visual equipment and supplies bid;
- approved the Staff Allocation Formulas for regular classroom teachers, Special Education teachers, secondary discipline center teachers, outreach teachers, elementary physical education teachers and vocal teachers, teacher assistants, administrators, school counselors, librarians, clerical, custodians, and Child Nutrition.
- ratified the change to the purchase of property adjacent to Acadiana High School, from 23.6 acres to
23.63 acres with the actual purchase price increasing by $785.82 totaling to $618,964.22 instead of $618,178.40; - approved a proclamation calling a special election, on October 4, 2008, to fill a vacancy of office for Lafayette Parish School Board District 3;
- approved revisions to the Carpenter I job description;
- approved revisions to the Custodian job description;
- authorized staff to advertise and accept bids for the purchase of modular buildings to replace modular buildings currently being leased.
