Adapted Physical Education

A.P.E. in Lafayette Parish is designed to provide a specially planned physical education program to exceptional students. Services provided by A.P.E. teachers include conducting gross motor assessments, developing individualized education programs, teaching fundamental motor skills and coordinating resources within the community, such as bowling, gymnastics, and swimming.

The purpose of Adapted Physical Education is to allow all students, regardless of their disability, to experience optimal success in physical, recreational and gross motor activities. It is the Adapted Physical Education Teachers’ intent to improve each child’s motor functioning to a level where he/she may interact with peers in a regular physical education class either on a part-time or full-time basis.
