Severe/Profound Disability

Students who participate in the severe program, which may include Moderate Mental Disability, Severe Mental Disability, Profound Disability, Multiple Disabilities, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Autism may participate in regular LEAP assessment but typically participate in LEAP Alternate Assessment (LAA). A student participating in LAA is progressing toward a Certificate of Achievement.

To be eligible for participation in LEAP Alternate Assessment, the LEAP Alternate Assessment Participation Criteria form must be completed at the IEP. The form must be used by the IEP committee to determine eligibility and becomes part of the IEP document. Minutes in special education instruction can range from regular class setting (less that 20% of the total instructional day) to self-contained (60% and over of the total instructional day).
