BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 10, 2015

Greetings, YMS families!

I wanted to share an update regarding the traffic situation at the start and close of each school day.  Two weeks ago, I announced that Chief Boudreaux was working with city officials to analyze traffic patterns in our school zone and looking for the safest possible solution that also gave some relief to commuters in our area.  I am pleased to announce that we will have a new traffic flow plan that will begin on THURSDAY, September 10.

JOURNEY BEGINS ON THIRD STREET -- TURN RIGHT ON TO AVENUE B -- TURN RIGHT ON TO FOURTH STREET TO GAIN ACCESS TO CAMPUS.

Beginning on Sept. 10, Fourth Street will be CLOSED to commuter traffic from 7:40am until 8:10am as we welcome students to campus.  ACCESS to Fourth Street will be from Avenue B only.  Drivers will be organized in a two lane, one way holding pattern and will be directed to cross Church Street and enter our front circle drive by officers of the Youngsville PD.  We will still be hosting a one lane student drop off.  Cars leaving the front circle will be limited to a right turn only as they exit.

In the afternoon, Fourth Street will be CLOSED to commuter traffic from 3:20 until 4:10.  Again, ACCESS to Fourth Street will be from Avenue B only.  I will continue the practice of gathering students’ names from the car rider signs posted in your windows to help expedite the start of traffic flow through the front circle.  Students will continue to be released from the supervised duty areas as the officers direct cars across Church Street into the front circle drive.  As in the morning, cars leaving the front circle will be limited to a right turn only as they exit.

The only students who should be crossing using the Fourth Street crosswalk are students who live in the neighborhood homes in the front of the school.  In order to provide the students who walk to school the safest possible journey, dismissal of walkers will be delayed until last bell at 4pm.  This will maximize our visibility of them as they exit campus.

Please be advised that ALL car riders will enter school from Fourth Street only, as entrance directly from Church Street parking spaces will no longer be allowed.  Thank you so much for your patience as we retrain families with this new procedure.  I am confident that this will increase the safety standards for our entire community.
