Senior Scholarships

 Student Insights

The 2008 Student View Scholarship Program is offering $8,000 worth of scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school. The program includes:

  • One $3,000 scholarship
  • Two $1000 scholarships
  • Six $500 scholarships

Simply log on to www.student-view.com and complete a 15-20 min application survey about colleges in your area. The scholarship will be awarded via a random drawing of all completed applications. The scholarship winner will be announced in May, 2008.

Deadline is April 22, 2008.


Antioch Lodge Scholarship

  1. Minimum 2.5 GPA
  2. Minimum ACT of 18
Deadline: May 2, 2008


Virginia Miniex Memorial Scholarship

  1. Financial Need
  2. 2.5 GPA
  3. Must attend Louisiana School
Deadline: April 30, 2008


Lafayette Chapter of Credit Union

Requirements:

- Be a member in good standing of one of the participating credit unions.
- 3.0 GPA
- 21 or higher on the ACT


SELECTIVE SERVICE

All 18 year old males must register with Selective Service. Registration only takes a minute at a local post office or on the internet at www.sss.gov. Financial aid for college will not be considered without it.


TOPS

Louisiana's Tuition Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) is a comprehensive program of state scholarships and one of the most innovative and progressive student assistance programs in the nation. TOPS has four award components. You may find more information about the TOPS program by going to www.osfa.state.la.us. You may also fill out an On-Line Application for TOPS by going to www.osfa.state.la.us/TOPSPort.nsf


Pell Grants

Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduate students based on financial need, the cost of attending school, whether the student is full-time or part-time and whether the student is attending school for a full academic year or less. Award amounts depend on program funding. Pell Grant funds are either disbursed directly to the school, paid directly to the student, or disbursed by a combination of these methods. The Pell Grant program is administered by the financial aid office at participating schools. Pell Grants do not have to be repaid.


Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA)

To manage and administer the federal and state student financial aid programs that are assigned to the Louisiana Student Financial Assistance Commission and the Louisiana Tuition Trust Authority.


Free Application to Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

For 2008-09 paper FAFSAs will not be available for order in bulk. Students will be able to obtain a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). Students may request up to three copies of the paper application and should receive their FAFSAs in three to seven business days.

New for 2008-09 is a PDF version of the FAFSA that students can submit for processing. Beginning in mid-November the PDF will be available for download on various Federal Student Aid web sites, such as www.federalstudentaid.ed.gov. Students can access the PDF, complete the form on the computer or by hand, and mail it to the address provided for processing. Schools can also access the PDF from the www.fsapubs.org.
