Bus Violations Should any pupil violate any regulation, a School Bus Driver Report Form will be completed by the driver and submitted to the proper authority. Parental contact will be made by the driver or the Lafayette Parish School System Department of Transportation designee after the student has committed the first violation only. Disciplinary action will be administered at the discretion of the principal. Four levels are used to define the seriousness of the violation. They are as follows: Level I Failure to remain properly seated while bus is in motion Loud disruptive talking or yelling Failure to take or remain in assigned seat (seat assignment shall be made on nondiscriminatory basis.) Eating/drinking/chewing on bus Crossing behind the bus Continuously late to bus stop Throwing objects on the bus Failure to control personal items on bus Other offenses of similar severity
Level II - Profanity, obscene language or gestures
- Extending head or arm out of bus window
- Verbal abuse of another student
- Defiant behavior shown towards the driver or assistant
- Spitting on or at the bus
- Throwing objects at the bus
- Other offenses of similar severity
Level III Throwing any type objects from the bus or anything in the bus that can cause harm to other occupants Engaging in or attempting to engage in kissing, and/or hugging Spitting on a person Other offenses of similar severity Level IV Lighting matches/lighters or fireworks on bus Verbal abuse of, or physical assault on a driver or assistant Vandalizing property Possession or use of tobacco, alcohol or other drugs on the bus. Weapon, simulated weapon, firearm, knife, mace/pepper spray, destructive device, or dangerous instrument, etc., on bus or at bus stop. Shoving student(s) into path of oncoming bus or other vehicles shall be treated as battery Physical assault on student(s) Engaging or attempting to engage in sexual relations Activating or tampering with emergency equipment Terrorist acts Other offenses of similar severity These policies can also be found in the 2005-2006 LPSS Behavior Code.
