School Dude What is Sophos and how do I get it? Sophos is the anti virus system used by the LPSS. The lower right corner of your screen, where the clock is displayed is known as the system tray. Within the system tray you should see a small blue shield, this means Sophos is installed and running on your machine. If you move your mouse over it, it will say "Protected by Sophos". If you do not see this, you may not have Sophos installed. All computers within the school system should have sophos installed. Sophos automatically installs after you log onto the network. If you are connected to the network Sophos will install. Make sure you are connected. If you are not, please submit a work order requesting Sophos to be installed on your machine. Why does Sophos have a red X over it? This means Sophos is not updating. Recently, the school system has restructured it's network. We have changed IP schemes. Due to this, some of the Sophos programs have not fully changed. We currently working on the fix for this issue. Please be informed that this does not mean that Sophos isn't working, the program is still working.
I can't get to my Email? First you need to check the following: Are you logged in and connected to the network/Internet? If not, then please see "Why can't I log on" in FAQ. If you are logged in, you then need to identify what Email program you are using. (i.e. Eudora, Outlook, Web mail) Upon identifying what client you are using to access your mail, you will need to check the settings of how it checks your mail account. See the FAQ for your Email Client.

Why can't I log on? First, check your connection. Is your Internet wire physically plugged into the wall? If your wire is plugged in, follow the wire to the back of the computer. Do you see where it is plugged in at? There should be one or two lights on or flashing where the cable plugs into the computer. Do you see it flashing? If not, please submit a work order for no network connectivity. If it is flashing, or the light is on, check your log on credentials. Credentials are just the user name, password, and domain you log on to. When the computer asks you to "Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to begin.", press and hold the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys simultaneously until your log on screen appears. You log on screen should display three text boxes. "User name:", "Password:", and "Log on to:". If you do not see three boxes, try clicking the options button. If this doesn't work, please submit a work order requesting your computer to be joined to the domain. For User name: make sure your typed in "patron", without the quotations. The password field should be blank. For the "Log on to:", this section is known as the domain. Click on the drop down list and find the domain that is for your school/location. In most cases, your domain will be "LIB_XXX", where XXX is the three initials of the school. An example is "LIB_LHS". This would be for teachers at Lafayette High School. If you receive some error, please submit a work order and put the error in the work order. If you have any questions, you may contact Tech Support by going to http://www.lpssonline.com/techsupport.
Why is my computer running slower then normal? Is sophos running its update process? To tell whether or not the Sophos program is running updates, look in the lower right hand corner for a blue shield. Does the shield appear to be moving, flashing? If so, Sophos is currently trying to update its program on your computer. This is a normal thing. Sophos needs to do this on a consistent basis in order to protect your computer from the latest threats. (viruses/worms) You may also check to see if you are currently infected by viruses or spy ware. You can go to http://www.lpssonline.com/techprograms and download the latest versions.
