Continuing Academic Program for Students

The Continuing Academic Program for Students (C.A.P.S.) in Lafayette Parish is an alternative program developed for students who have been recommended for expulsion from school. C.A.P.S. is designed to provide an educational environment, while focusing on behavior change through the process of re-thinking, re-evaluating and re-directing student's mindsets.

  • Hours of Operation
    - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 7:40am - 2:10pm
    - Wednesday 7:40am - 11:10am
  • Entrance Criteria
    - Grades 4-12
    - Actively enrolled in a Lafayette Parish School
    - Expulsion recommendation upheld
    - Completed application to CAPS within 5 school days of hearing
    - CAPS interview and orientation
  • Exit Criteria
    - Successfully complete 12-week merit program or Recommended expulsion
  • Dress Code
    - Red uniform shirt
    - Khaki uniform pants
    - Closed toe shoes
    - Crew length socks (mid-calf)
    - Belt
    - No jewelry (watch only)
    - No accessories (hair or clothing)
  • Curriculum and Instruction
    - Proficiencies mandated by Bulletin 741
    - Standards set by LPSS Pupil Progression Plan
    - CAI Lab using NovaNet
    - Accelerated Reader
    - In-school tutorial
    - Standardized diagnostic test (BASI)
