Welcome to Lafayette Parish School System Emergency Hotline for LPSS School System 521-7777
Hurricane School Closing Update Lafayette Parish School System officials have decided to close schools on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 4 and 5, for numerous reasons. Supt. Burnell Lemoine met with staff and determined that reasons for maintaining closed status include lack of power in more than half of the schools, downed trees, downed power lines, impassable roads, localized flooding and anticipated high absenteeism of both students and employees due to those who evacuated and are having a difficult time returning to the area. Many people who have evacuated are being cautioned not to return until Wed. or later. Many who have tried to return are being turned away from areas impacted by the hurricane.
The status of other school-related activities, such as athletic events, is being assessed and will be announced at a later time.
School district officials anticipate opening all schools and offices for regular business on Monday, Sept. 8.
