Lafayette Parish School System Administrative Staffing Placements
The Lafayette Parish School System is announcing several mid-year administrative changes that will occur when students return to school on January 4, 2017. Stacy Danos, principal at Live Oak Elementary, is retiring after working in the district for the last 19 years and serving as principal for the last 7 years. In November, under Mrs. Danos’ leadership, Live Oak Elementary was recognized by the Louisiana Department of Education as a Top Gains School. Replacing Stacy Danos at Live Oak Elementary will be Patricia Thompson who has been the principal at Myrtle Place Elementary for the last 2 years. Mrs. Thompson is familiar with Live Oak Elementary after having previously worked there as a counselor and an itinerant assistant principal.
Taking Patricia Thompson’s place at Myrtle Place Elementary will be Allison El-Koubi, who currently serves as the principal of Lafayette Middle School. As a bilingual Canadian, Mrs. El- Koubi’s professional skill set and background uniquely qualifies her to lead Myrtle Place and complement the French Immersion program.
Tia Trahan, currently serving as an assistant principal at David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy will transfer to Lafayette Middle School where she will serve as principal. Mrs. Trahan formerly served as principal of Milton Elementary and Middle School for 4 years, where she raised the School Performance Score 9.4 points from a 98.9, B rating to 108.3, A rating. Mrs. Trahan has participated and completed the National Institute of School Leadership’s Executive Development Program, which is designed to strengthen administrative leadership skills in order to raise student achievement. Mrs. Trahan’s 13 years of experience in the district and specialized training will allow her to build upon the growth of 7.4 points in Lafayette Middle’s performance score that Mrs. El- Koubi and the faculty made this past year.
Dr. Aguillard has appointed Jody Duhon as principal of the new Edward J. Sam Accelerated School of Lafayette which opens in July, 2017. Mrs. Duhon is currently the principal of N.P. Moss Preparatory School where she has been the principal since 2012. Mrs. Duhon has extensive experience working with non-traditional students, having previously served as the principal of Lafayette’s Charter High School from 2007 to 2012.
Additionally, Alysia Messa has been appointed as principal of Carencro Heights Elementary. She will be replacing Nicholas Thomas who was recently appointed to the position of Federal Programs Manager. Mrs. Messa previously served as itinerant assistant principal at Truman Early Childhood Center from 2012-2016, and most recently as the assistant principal of JW Faulk Elementary.
The district is currently advertising for a replacement principal at N. P. Moss Preparatory, an assistant principal at David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy, and an assistant principal at JW Faulk Elementary. Appointments to these positions will be made in January.
While it is somewhat unusual to make administrative changes during the school year, the openings, which occurred as a result of the retirement of Stacy Danos and the promotion of other administrators, provided the opportunity to make strategic placements that will strengthen the administrative teams of schools in order to best meet the needs of the students.
