City of Broussard Adopts a Resolution to Support the LPSS Sales Tax Proposition
At its meeting on March 14, 2017, the Broussard City Council adopted a resolution to support the Lafayette Parish School System’s bid to the voters for a dedicated, fixed-term, 1⁄2 cent sales tax to replace 248 portable temporary buildings currently used as classrooms over the course of 10 years.
Broussard Mayor Charlie Langlinais said “This school board is showing its commitment to the children of Lafayette Parish, and we support their determination to update the infrastructure of our schools to provide a safe and secure learning environment. A 1⁄2 cent, 10-year sales tax, dedicated to funding infrastructure and maintenance in the Lafayette Parish School System, has the overwhelming support of myself and our city council. Our children must be our top priority and this puts their needs at the forefront.”
Johnny Foco, Broussard City Councilman said, “The school board and superintendent told the people of this parish what they were going to do, and they have followed through with their commitment to build schools in this part of Lafayette Parish, which is experiencing very rapid growth. The citizens of Broussard must support this tax.”
