Substitute Employment Procedures

Thank you for your interest in becoming a substitute teacher with the Lafayette Parish School System. 

If you are a Certified Teacher, you can bypass this process and proceed to our employment page to submit your application.

The first step in the process is to complete the on-line application. The substitute teacher application will be available on the website the first working day of each month, beginning July, 2017.  The application will automatically close when the maximum number of applicants has been reached.   It will be listed as a Job Posting and it will state the orientation date.

You will be required to upload your resume and proof of education to the application before it can be submitted. Please have your documentation ready before the job is posted; otherwise, the posting may automatically close before you are able to submit it.

Once the application is closed, an email is sent to all the submitted applications with instructions to schedule an appointment for fingerprinting.   Fingerprinting is done at the Lafayette Parish School System’s Central Office, Human Resources Department, located at 113 Chaplin Drive, Lafayette, LA  70508.  You must bring your driver’s license, voided check or direct deposit statement and social security card with you to the appointment. 

The Substitute Orientation is mandatory for all substitutes to attend.

LPSS Substitute Teachers are paid accordingly:




*4-year degree or higher




Note: These rates are slightly less when substituting as a para-educator.

The Substitute Teacher Orientation is held at LeRosen Learning Center located at 516 East Pinhook Road, Lafayette, LA, unless noted otherwise, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
