Services We Provide
School counselors help by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social domains.
Classroom Counseling Lessons
As school counselors, we will go into the classrooms to teach students about various topics ranging from bullying to test anxiety, coping skills to social skills. These lessons are developmentally appropriate and interactive. Our goal is to keep the students engaged, so they can learn and practice the skills and knowledge we present to them.
Small Group Counseling
This involves 2 to 6 students who participate in small group setting where they learn different skills to help them be more successful in the classroom and more effective in their interactions with others. Group topics can include impulse-control skills, coping skills, leadership skills, and many more.
Brief Solution-Focused Counseling
This a strength-based, goal-directed, and collaborative form of individual counseling. The goal is to help students use their strengths to find solutions to the issues they are struggling with that they can apply to many different areas of their lives. Please note that school counselors do not provide "traditional" long-term counseling. Outside counseling referrals are available for students who need long-term counseling services.
In order to facilitate long-term change in the life of a child, we need to use a systems approach. This means that we as school counselors work in collaboration with parents. When we do this, it ensures consistency throughout the child’s life. When we work together, the child knows that things will be the same whether he is at school, at home, or anywhere else. We are here to link you to community resources that range from outside counseling referrals to community organizations to academic resources.
