History of Carencro Middle

Carencro initially had Carencro School, established in 1874. That school later relocated to the present-day site of Carencro Middle School. Carencro High School traces its roots to this original school building. In 1981, Carencro Middle School officially opened as a distinct middle school within the Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) during a major wave of new school construction across the parish. Today, Carencro Middle hosts two magnet academies: biomedical and informatics academies. The Biomedical Academy, launched in Fall 2011, offers life‑science–focused curricula like DNA testing and health sciences labs, plus an on‑site student health center. The Informatics Academy, which emphasizes technology, information systems, and problem-solving, prepares students for Carencro High’s IT pathways.
