Did you know that September is National Piano Month? In celebration, we're highlighting our amazing Piano teacher, Mrs. Jennifer Horrigan!
This past summer, Mrs. Horrigan attended the Summer Music Educators Workshop at Carnegie Hall! This four day event provides an opportunity for teachers to learn about Carnegie Hall’s Great Music Teaching Framework, get inspired, collaborate, and even make music! At this year’s workshop, there were 160 teachers from 33 states and three different countries in attendance. Mrs. Horrigan has attended for the past three years and has learned something new each time.

About her experience, she remarked, “I have used the knowledge and skills I have gained from this workshop in my classroom EACH year that I have attended, and have been able to share these resources with my fellow performing arts teachers and with fellow piano teachers in the Lafayette Area Music Teachers Association. This was an incredible experience in the sacred space of Carnegie Hall that should be experienced by music teachers everywhere. I have made lifelong friends from across the U.S. and the world, with many from Canada, Europe, and Asia. Each year the programming, presenters, and workshops are different, and you leave with a full cup and a full soul.”
While in New York City, she was also able to attend the Broadway show Chicago with some of her new friends gained at the SMEW.
We are grateful for faculty like Mrs. Horrigan who continuously strives for professional growth and providing the best quality of education for our students. You can see Mrs. Horrigan and her piano students at the Halloween Piano Recital held at the Black Box Theater at Ovey Comeaux High School on Thursday, October 24th at 6 PM.
