The Performing Arts Academy Theatre Department will be performing Carrie the Musical in the Blackbox Theater May 8th-11th!

Carrie the Musical is a rock-infused, emotional thriller based on Stephen King's iconic 1974 novel Carrie. The story follows Carrie White, an awkward, shy high school student with a strict, abusive mother and a gift for telekinesis. As she navigates the trials of adolescence, including relentless bullying and social isolation, Carrie experiences her first taste of love and acceptance, only to have it cruelly shattered at her high school prom.

The musical combines a powerful rock score with dramatic, high-energy performances, bringing the horror and heartbreak of Carrie's tragic journey to life. Themes of revenge, empowerment, and the consequences of cruelty are explored with intensity, as Carrie’s latent telekinetic abilities are triggered by a catastrophic series of events, leading to a devastating and unforgettable night we'll never forget.

Despite its rocky initial reception in the 1980s, Carrie the Musical has since gained a cult following, celebrated for its haunting songs, its exploration of societal pressures on young women, and its striking portrayal of a girl pushed to the edge. The musical delves deep into the emotional and psychological cost of abuse, and its themes remain as resonant and powerful today as when it was first conceived.

Carrie the Musical contains mature themes, including violence, bullying, and psychological distress. It also features strong language, adult situations, and intense emotional content. The production may be unsuitable for audience members younger than 13. Viewer discretion is advised.
