Dr. Rachel Brown

Dr. Rachel Brown is thrilled to be the lioness leader for the LHS pride!

Dr. Brown is originally from Abita Springs, Louisiana and a graduate of Mandeville High School. Her higher education background includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre from ULL, a Bachelor of Science in Education from ULL, a Master of Arts in Deaf Education from UNO, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum/Instruction from Capella University.

Some of Dr. Brown’s professional areas of expertise include Deaf culture and history, bilingual education, and special education. She is an avid researcher, presenter, and published author. Teaching American Sign Language is a joyful endeavor that she has experienced in schools, churches, day cares, camps, and at the university level.

Dr. Brown has two French-speaking sons and a grey cat, Salty. Her hobbies include yelling puzzle solves during Wheel of Fortune, supporting live theatre, scrapbooking memorabilia, and traveling to tropical destinations.

In 2009, Dr. Brown started teaching at LHS. Throughout her years as a lion, she has discovered that her favorite thing about the school is the diversity represented in the student and staff population. A favorite quote is Dr. Seuss’ “Why fit in when you were born to stand out?”

Now, she is grateful for the opportunity to stand out as the first woman leader of the school, and vows to continue the lion legacy of excellence.
