Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does my kid have to be talented in any of these arts to attend Middlebrook Fine Arts Academy?
A: Not at all! At Middlebrook Fine Arts Magnet Academy, students don’t need to come in with any prior experience or talent in the arts. What matters most is curiosity and a willingness to try. Our school is designed to expose every child to a wide variety of art forms—music, theatre, dance, visual arts, and more—while also building strong academic foundations.

We believe that every child has creativity inside them, and it’s our job to nurture it. Some students discover a passion they never knew they had, while others simply enjoy exploring the arts alongside their academic learning. Either way, no auditions or prior skills are required to be part of our community.

Q: What makes Middlebrook a Fine Arts Magnet Academy?
A: We provide a rigorous academic program that is enriched with daily fine arts instruction in areas such as vocal music, theatre, dance, piano, band, strings/guitar, and visual arts. Every student has the opportunity to learn and grow through both academics and the arts.

Q: Is there a cost to attend?
A: No. We are a public school in Lafayette Parish. There are no tuition fees, though some classes or activities may require minimal supply contributions or optional fundraising.

Q: What does a typical day look like for students?
A: Students receive high-quality instruction in core academic subjects (ELA, math, science, social studies) and have daily fine arts classes. Schedules vary by grade level, but all students engage in arts every day.

Q: Will arts classes take away from academic time?
A: No. Academics remain our foundation. Arts instruction is integrated into the daily schedule to enhance creativity, problem-solving, and engagement while maintaining full coverage of state academic standards.

Q: Are there performance opportunities?
A: Yes! Students showcase their work in performances, art shows, and school-wide events throughout the year. Families are encouraged to attend and celebrate their child’s growth.

Q: Can students participate in regular school activities, clubs, and sports?
A: Absolutely! In addition to fine arts, students have access to clubs, academic competitions, school spirit events, and community service opportunities.

Q: What are the school hours?
A: School hours follow the LPSS schedule: 8:10 AM - 3:25 PM. Arrival and dismissal procedures are communicated before the school year begins.

Q: Is transportation provided?
A: Yes, LPSS provides bus transportation for students accepted into magnet academies, even if they live outside of our traditional attendance zone.

Q: What about uniforms?
A: Students follow the LPSS dress code policy. Middlebrook spirit wear is also available for purchase to show school pride!

Q: How can families support the academy?
A: Families can get involved by joining our CAFE (Community and Family Engagement) committee, volunteering at events, supporting fundraisers, and celebrating student performances.

Q: Will there be parent orientations or tours?
A: Yes! We host information sessions, open houses, and tours to help families learn more about our school, meet staff, and see our arts program in action.
