Key Changes for the LPSS 2025-26 School Year
The Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) has announced several important updates for the 2025-26 school year, including modifications to the district-wide dress code and school start and end times. These changes aim to improve consistency, safety, and student experience across all campuses.
Updated Dress Code Policy
LPSS has revised its student dress code policy to ensure clarity and uphold standards of dress appropriate for a focused learning environment. The following are key changes effective for the 2025-26 school year:
Approved Bottoms for All Grades:
- Khaki or navy blue pants/slacks/shorts
- Blue or black jeans
Prohibited Bottoms:
- Spandex bottoms of any kind
- Cut-off pants or jeans
- Pants or jeans with frayed edges or unhemmed finishes
- Shorts or pants with holes
Hooded Garments:
- Pre-K through 5th Grade: Students may wear jackets, coats, sweaters, and sweatshirts with hoods.
- 6th through 12th Grade: Hooded garments are not permitted at school.
Weather Exceptions:
In the event of extreme weather conditions, students may wear sweatpants, subject to the discretion of the Superintendent.
LPSS encourages all families to review the complete 2025-26 Uniform Policy to ensure full compliance and understanding of the guidelines.
Adjusted Bell Times
To better align transportation logistics and instructional needs, LPSS has also adjusted school bell schedules. The new start and end times for the 2025-26 school year are as follows:
- High Schools (including ECA): 7:05 AM – 2:35 PM
- David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy: 7:15 AM – 2:45 PM
- Middle Schools: 7:15 AM – 2:30 PM
- Elementary Schools (including Milton, excluding ACE): 8:10 AM – 3:25 PM
- ACE Schools (Boucher, Baranco, J.W. Faulk): 7:50 AM – 3:35 PM
- Truman and Drexel Early Childhood Centers: 8:20 AM – 3:20 PM
These adjustments are intended to support smoother transitions between school levels, reduce transportation conflicts, and enhance student attendance and engagement.
