Why Teach in the Lafayette Parish Public School System?

As one of the largest public school districts in Louisiana with 47 schools, Lafayette Parish offers ample opportunities for growth and advancement.

The district offers a recruitment, retention and returning stipends at select schools for employees who qualify.

LPSS teachers receive competitive salary and benefit package.

The district actively supports professional development for opportunities for teachers, including through partnership programs with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

In order to better assist those new to the profession or the district, LPSS offers a New Teacher Support Initiative which provides ongoing training and guidance to first-year teachers. The program brings together peer support, special training sessions, one-on-one coaching, educational best practices and classroom management strategies to help create a solid foundation for teacher success.

Our core belief is that all students can learn, and we offer the support needed to help them through their educational journey.

Lafayette is a great place to live and raise a family. With its unique blend of Creole and Cajun culture, the area boasts world-class festivals, rich natural habitats and a cuisine that attracts travelers from across the world. The city is known for its outstanding hospitality, friendliness and “joie de vivre.” Lafayette is a place unlike any other, a perfect place to call home but also located within easy driving distance of major cities like Houston and New Orleans.
