LPSS Principals Elevate Ticket Sales Competition to New Heights

Schools Set to Reap Rewards: Over $50,000 in Funding from Love Our Schools Home Giveaway

In the exciting final days of ticket sales, a spirited competition unfolded between Lafayette High School (LHS) Principal Julia Williams and Acadiana High School (AHS) Principal Layne Edelman. The two school leaders engaged in a friendly wager to determine whose school could sell the most tickets. The stakes were high, with the loser agreeing to take a pie to the face during halftime at the LHS/AHS football game.

The spirited competition came to a close with Lafayette High School selling 1049 tickets and Acadiana High School selling 1005 tickets. Principal Edelman graciously accepted the outcome.

Notably, LPSS schools collectively accounted for approximately half of the total tickets sold, resulting in an impressive $53,190 in direct funding for schools in the coming weeks. This year's fundraising efforts culminated in a remarkable total of $634,350, surpassing last year's total by more than $60,000.

The ticket sales concluded on Monday, September 18, and on September 21, the winning ticket was drawn with the assistance of three Lafayette High School students. The winner, DaShawn Lawrence, a resident of Lafayette, was awarded the home. The news carried a poignant note, as the Lawrence family had recently endured the loss of their beloved 12-year-old son, Maddox, following a battle with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma earlier this year. In honor of Maddox's memory, the family has chosen to name the home after him.
