LAFAYETTE PARISH ARTS DEPARTMENT

The mission of the Lafayette Parish Arts Department is to offer a rigorous, professionally led standards-based curriculum to all students, providing meaningful and significant experiences that foster critical thinking, inspire creative self-expression, and develop a lifelong appreciation of the arts. Our belief is that quality instruction shall be provided by arts specialists and classroom teachers, and supported by partnerships with professional organizations and community programs.

Our department’s goal is to work with teachers within the four disciplines to ensure that they are providing relevant and rigorous instruction to students. This is provided through coaching, direct feedback, model teaching, assisting with Compass, and providing professional development for all four disciplines, including the teachers within the Talented Arts Program. It is imperative that we stay abreast of the current trends and research in each discipline, disseminate the information to our teachers, and ensure correct implementation. We are currently in the process of writing in-depth curriculums and Scope & Sequences for each discipline that aligns with state and new national standards.
