A benefit for employees and their dependents
For assistance call - 800-327-2251
An employee assistance program, or EAP , is a service designed to provide employees and/or their dependents confidential help in identifying and resolving personal issues. Our EAP services are provided by Acadiana EAP/Business Health Services here in Lafayette. This benefit is funded by the Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS). Employees and/or members of their household receive up to six counseling sessions per person per problem per year at NO COST to the employee. In cases where an employee or his dependents require help beyond the contracted services, the EAP staff will assist in finding continued counseling which is affordable for the employee.
When an employee or members of his household seek help at the EAP, the sessions are completely confidential. No one at the LPSS will ever know the employee contacted the EAP unless the employee chooses to share this information.
The LPSS provides this benefit because the board, the Superintendent, and the administration believe that a healthy, happy employee is more effective in the classroom and in his or her position serving the students of Lafayette Parish. Personal problems can affect a person's ability to concentrate and can cause absenteeism. Receiving help in a personal crisis can save a job, save a family, or save a life.
People seek the EAP services for many different kinds of issues, such as:
- Family relationships
- Loss and grief
- Crisis management
- Conflict resolution
- Workplace difficulties
- Stress management
- Depression and anxiety
- Marital problems
- Parent skill-building
- Anger management
- Balancing work and family
Members of an employee's household can seek help from the EAP without the permission or participation of the employee himself. Acadiana EAP has affiliates in other cities who can provide services to dependents who live outside the Lafayette area.
To make an appointment, a person need only call 800-327-2251. The EAP web site is www.bhsonline.com. The user ID is LPSB. Employees who visit the site will find information on services, a wellness library, and links to resources.
A Note for Supervisors - EAP Referral
In situations where an employee's personal problems or employee conflict on the job is affecting job performance, a supervisor may make a mandatory referral of the employee to the EAP. In this case, the supervisor must complete the Supervisor's Referral Form and e-mail it to Desiree' D. Early at firstname.lastname@example.org. The supervisor should meet with the employee(s) being referred and explain the reason for the referral. For more information on making a formal or mandatory referral, read the Supervisor's Resource Booklet. In cases where the referral is mandatory (which means participation in the EAP is a requirement to maintain employment), the EAP reports to the supervisor that the employee has attended EAP sessions. However, the counselor does not report the content of the counseling sessions. A mandatory referral is a supervisor's attempt to help the employee improve job performance in order to avoid termination.
If a supervisor encounters an employee who he believes is working while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the form Supervisor's Reasonable Suspicion Checklist is a tool the supervisor may use to document his or her observations.
Supervisors may also call upon the EAP to work with employees at their work sites for issues such as:
- Grief counseling
- Conflict resolution
- Diversity training
- Anti-harassment training
- Preventing workplace violence
- Time management
- Improving communication
- Developing and leading teams
- Critical incident assistance

**SEE BELOW FOR HELPFUL LINKS REGARDING SILVERSCRIPT***
Lafayette Parish School System Retirees,
It is a priority of the district to continue to provide you with dependable and affordable health and prescription coverages. We are pleased to announce that, effective January 1, 2021, all (Medicare-eligible) retirees, spouses and/or dependents will have a new prescription drug plan called SilverScript Employer PDP sponsored by Lafayette Parish School System (SilverScript).
What is SilverScript Employer PDP? An employer provided group Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan to include additional coverage provided by LPSS. The additional coverage will close the gap and offer more coverage than the standard Medicare Part D plan. The plan is offered by SilverScript® Insurance Company and affiliated with CVS Caremark®, our district’s current pharmacy benefit manager.
- This prescription plan has been custom-tailored for LPSS retirees to ensure little, if any, change from your current plan. Here are a few things you will want to make note of:
- Covered members (Medicare-eligible retirees, spouses and dependents) will have their own new ID cards / materials mailed to them.
- Members that are not Medicare-eligible will continue to be covered on their current plan. There will be no changes for these members.
No need to enroll in the SilverScript Employer PDP – you will be automatically enrolled. You may be contacted, via mail only, if additional information is needed to complete your enrollment (to confirm information, like your Medicare Beneficiary Identification Number or a physical street address)
The decision of the board to amend the current plan by moving to SilverScript will change the way LPSS funds prescription drug costs, resulting in seamless coverage for our retirees and a significant cost-savings to our district insurance plan.
What’s next? You will be receiving additional mailings with more detailed information about the SilverScript prescription plan from both LPSS and SilverScript between now and January 1, 2021. Please read all information carefully and save it for your reference.
