Lafayette Parish Schools Awarded $15,000 Crisis Response Grant Funds

On September 1st, the Lafayette Parish School System was awarded $15,000 in funding through the United Way of Acadiana’s Crisis Response grant program. Student Services Coordinators Tonya Hebert and Pauline Duplantis wrote and submitted the grant proposal to purchase supplies and uniforms and distribute them to those in need. Very soon after the flood school counselors conducted a needs assessment to determine which students and families are in need and to get those families disaster relief information. The grant funds will be used to purchase uniforms, belts, backpacks, and school supplies for students K-12. A systematic plan to distribute the uniforms and supplies will be developed through a partnership among Student Services, the Homeless Children/Youth Education Program, and the Migrant Program.
