Lafayette Parish School Bus Catches Fire

At approximately 1:00 p.m., a Lafayette Parish school bus returning to Prairie Elementary School from a field trip to Henderson caught fire. At the first sign of smoke, the bus pulled over, and students were immediately evacuated with the assistance of chaperones. The fire department and Acadian Ambulance responded to the situation. Emergency procedures were followed and with the assistance of the students all who were involved were quickly brought to safety. Two students with minor injuries were evaluated by Acadian Ambulance EMTs and were allowed to return to Prairie Elementary School.  Counselors and staff were available to meet with the students upon their return to school, and parents were called to pick up their children.  Counselors will be available tomorrow for students.
