Congressman Clay Higgins recently announced the winners of the 2020 Congressional App Challenge for Louisiana’s 3rd District. This competition helps to inspire innovation and learning in computer science and coding. Lafayette Parish School System is proud to announce that three members of the four-person team are LPSS students. Congratulations to Zarie Shelvin of Lafayette High School, Dontaye Washington of David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy, and Rena Celestine of Edward J. Sam Accelerated School of Lafayette.
The team’s app titled “Recovr” is designed to connect victims of natural disasters with essential resources in their community. Following Hurricanes Laura and Delta, Louisiana has experienced a tremendous need for this type of service, and these students used their coding skills to provide support to those in need. The “Recovr” app will be featured in an exhibition at the U.S. Capitol.
Congratulations to these talented students.
