While the 2020-2021 school year is different from previous years in many ways, one of the most significant differences is the absolute necessity for students to have access to the internet. Some families have chosen to go 100% virtual this year through the Lafayette Online Academy, while students who are attending class in-person must also have internet access for completing assignments in addition to having access at their homes if the district or any particular school finds it necessary to switch to a 100% distance-learning scenario during the year.
With internet connectivity becoming such a necessity to ensure that learning can continue throughout the year, the Lafayette Parish School System is partnering with the Love Our Schools Link & Learn initiative to make certain that all students have access. Today LPSS announced:
- Wi-Fi on school campuses have been extended into the parking lots.
- In-home internet assistance is available for families who meet certain qualifications. This service is free and provides filtered academic internet access which reaches only LPSS-approved learning content. More information will be provided to families in the coming days.
- A Technology Help Desk has been created to assist parents/guardians and students with all questions and concerns related to internet connectivity and device usage. Visit HelpDesk.LPSSonline.com for 24/7 access to support or call 337-273-0755 from 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, to speak with a representative.
