The Lafayette Parish School System recently sent important information (via text, automated calls and emails) to the entire district, including parents of Lafayette Online Academy students - referred to as LOA.
Parents/guardians can verify their student’s enrollment status by logging into the Parent Portal, and this includes LOA. From there, parents can view prior communications, verify their student’s base school, and — most importantly — update their contact information.
As a reminder for LOA students, an up-to-date email address is mandatory to receive parent on-boarding and orientation materials that will be emailed directly to parents on September 8, 2020. At this time parents, in addition to students, must view and acknowledge important information to continue in the program. Therefore parents or guardians of LOA students must provide a valid email address no later than Monday, September 7 at 6:00 p.m. or their student’s enrollment may be canceled. As a reminder, security issues prevent AOL.com email addresses from being used with the LPSS Parent Portal system.
All parents are also encouraged to review the recently updated FAQ section for the Learn Lafayette return to school plan and FAQs on the LOA website for the latest information and answers to the most common parent questions. With so many new procedures and policies in place for the new school year, it is imperative that parents have logged in to the Parent Portal to confirm where their child should be on the first day of school, Sept. 8, 2020.
Please note that the first day of school is a Tuesday, so it is a B day meaning even-numbered addresses attend school in person for students in grades 1-12.
For those parents who have not previously logged in to the Parent Portal, please create an account by registering as a new user online. For assistance logging into Parent Portal, including help with your student’s PSN number, please be aware that for most students, the PSN number is the last 5 digits of the student’s Social Security number. If a student does not have a Social Security number, contact your base school for further assistance.
As an additional note: The district has reset all student passwords, and student schedules are now visible for grades 5-12. In order for students to log in to view their information, returning students should enter their default district password. Once logged in, students in grades 5-12 will be prompted to set a new password of their choosing. This information will also be reviewed on the first day of school; it is only needed for those who wish to get an early start. The default password will also be shared with new students when they report to schools for the first time.
We hope everyone has a nice Labor Day weekend!
