The Lafayette Parish School System would like to thank the students, faculty, and staff for a job well done in sustaining our district recycling initiative during the 2017-2018 school year. LPSS has 30 sites currently contributing to the recycling stream keeping approximately 10.5 tons per month of paper and plastics out of the waste stream. Reports show LPSS recycled more than 83.5 tons from September through April of this year. Southside High School and Prairie Elementary lead the way for the district utilizing two recycling containers at each campus. Principal Cayce Booher said, “Setting up a recycling program on Prairie's campus was a great way to teach students about the environment and how what they do impacts it. It has also helped promote leadership skills as we have a team of students who spearhead recycling on our campus.” LPSS is the single largest commercial recycling customer for Waste Management in Acadiana and has increased recycling more than 18% since September of 2017.
