Broussard Middle School Achieves Leader in Me Lighthouse Status

On Tuesday, March 6th, the Franklin Covey network announced that Broussard Middle School has achieved Lighthouse Status, the highest honor that the Franklin Covey organization bestows on schools. Achieving Lighthouse Status indicates that Broussard Middle School has been judged outstanding in the areas of Leadership, Potential, Change, Motivation, and Education. The award also certifies that Broussard Middle is a model Leader in Me school. Schools from around the country can visit Broussard Middle to see the Leader in Me program in action.

During the qualification process for Lighthouse Status, Franklin Covey employees interviewed parents, teachers, and students, toured the school, and examined a digital binder of evidence that the school put together to show that it had met the requirements for Lighthouse Status. Covey employees also spoke to other stakeholders outside of the school to get an idea of how the Broussard Middle staff has interacted with the larger Broussard community since becoming a Leader in Me school.

Principal John Mouton said, “This is not something that can be accomplished overnight. I believe it is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and vision of the students and staff at Broussard Middle School. This process was a huge undertaking. Broussard Middle School is now another example of what the Leader in Me process can do for a school community, and we are ready to meet with, help, and/or mentor other schools in this process.”

Superintendent Aguillard also commended the students and staff at Broussard Middle saying, “We are proud of Broussard Middle’s achievement of Lighthouse Status, as it demonstrates the staff’s commitment for modeling leadership and helping students reach their leadership potential.”

Board Member Jeremy Hidalgo thanked the Broussard Middle staff for their hard work and dedication, and added, addressing the staff, “This is not just a huge honor for Broussard Middle, but a huge honor for the entire district as well, and it is all because of you. I know you do not get recognized enough for all of your hard work each and every day, but please know that the entire school system and this entire community is extremely proud of your achievements. Mr. Mouton has certainly proven to be one of the strongest leaders in our parish, and he is certainly lucky to have you on his team.”
